Douglas G. Hanson
President, Sr. Project Manager

Doug, president of HAWK Construction, graduated from the Eveleth Area Vocational-Technical Institute with a Degree in Carpentry and also Mankato State University, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Business Administration/Construction Management.   He is responsible for the oversight and participating in the preparation of construction cost estimates, proposals, and administrative aspects of project management.  Doug has put together a team of professionals that ensures all projects run smoothly and the client receives first class construction services. Doug’s expertise has allowed him to successfully manage projects from remodeling to industrial construction that have involved numerous types of construction systems and designs. Doug’s diverse experience in construction spans nearly four decades and includes projects ranging from small renovations to multi-million dollar new construction projects.

Janet. J. Deutsch, AIA  NCARB
Architect/Project Manager

Janet, a licensed architect, graduated Summa Cum Laude from North Dakota State University with a B. S. Degree in Environmental Design and Architecture.  Her work history includes design firms in the Twin Cities, St. Cloud, and HAWK in Grand Rapids.  Her many years of working in the field of architecture and design, enable Janet to offer creative and practical solutions to the challenges encountered during the course of a project.   As the lead in the design aspect in the HAWK design/build team, Janet has a good working knowledge of Minnesota Building Codes.

Examples of her Grand Rapids design work include: Northbank Professional Building, Boardwalk Center in south Grand Rapids, United Methodist Church, Grand Rapids Tire & Auto, West End Market, Itasca Reliable Office, and Community Presbyterian Church additions and renovations.

Daniel L. Fillbrandt
Sr. Project manager/Estimator/CAD Drafter

Dan graduated from Anoka-Hennepin Technical Collage with a degree in Architectural and Construction Technology. His experience in site planning & structures, building systems, commercial design, building codes, construction cost estimating, and architectural CAD, enable him to be an effective CAD Drafter, Project Manager, and Estimator for HAWK. He has an excellent working relationship with the construction network of subcontractors and suppliers in our region.   Dan has extensive experience of managing new construction and remodeling projects as well as designing and preparing construction documents utilizing a variety of building and construction systems.

Zachary K. Preble
Project Manager/Estimator

Zac, a project manager, graduated from Bemidji Statue University with degrees in Construction Management, Manufacturing Management, and Technology Management, with a Business Administration minor.  He is experienced in construction cost estimating, project management, scheduling, drafting, and construction safety.  His duties include bidding and managing multiple projects, often beginning at the design phase and continuing through construction.   Zac places a high value on building and maintaining good working relationships with project owners, architects, and sub-contractors while managing HAWK projects.

Raymond G. Axley
Project Superintendent

Ray, a senior construction superintendent, graduated from the Duluth Technical College with a degree in Carpentry. He shares responsibility for the oversight and organization of equipment and crew scheduling. His project supervision duties include, scheduling of subcontractors and suppliers, problem solving, along with communication and coordination with clients, project architects, and engineers.   He is knowledgeable in a variety of construction systems including wood frame, masonry, pre-cast concrete, timber frame, and pre-engineered steel and wood structures.   The projects Ray has supervised include: Minnesota Correctional Facility Industries Bldg. Moose Lake, Leisure Hills Health Care additions and remodeling, L&M Supply, Grand Rapids; Itasca County Family YMCA additions and remodeling, Lakewood Heights Professional Building, Greenway Schools renovations and additions.

Dean Reed
Project Superintendent

Dean, a project superintendent, earned his degree at Staples Vo-Tech.   He has been rated by clients and design professionals as one of the most skilled and accommodating project superintendents with whom they have worked.  Exhibiting excellence in planning, scheduling, and organizing a project, Dean is also a master craftsman in carpentry and cabinetmaking.  His uncompromising attitude toward quality and demonstrated ability to move projects forward make him a great asset to any project he runs.  A short list if his projects include: Itasca Community College Engineering Building, The Lodge at Grand Village, Grand Rapids Tire & Auto, Grand Rapids State Bank Financial Services & addition, Jerry’s Warehouse Liquor and West End Market complex.

Lisa A. Mrnak
Bookkeeper/Administrative Assistant

Lisa, bookkeeper/administrative assistant graduated from Itasca Community College with a Certificate in Accounting.  She is responsible for all accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll processing. Lisa is a great asset to the office as she assists all personnel with their paperwork duties, completes and files the necessary reports,  and provides IT support.   She also is the Affirmative Action EEO Coordinator.
