Grand Dental Center, by Strapko Pahl Design, is a 3800 sf dental office located off Golf Course Road in Grand Rapids. Built in 2010, the building features a curved wall entry vestibule. A wall of East facing glass allows the sun to penetrate the building, even on cold winter mornings. Careful partnering with Henry Schein Dental equipment led to a very successful project.

Grand Village Retirement and Assisted Living Facility partnered with HAWK in ’09 on an extensive renovation project- over 70,000 sf. In an effort to provide a variety of living options, the renovation created a “homelike” atmosphere with cozy living spaces, kitchenettes for residents’ use, and an “Up-North” color pallet. Large exposed beam canopy’s welcome both residents and visitors to the facility.

In 2012 HAWK Construction teamed up with over 20 sub-contractors as Greenway HS underwent extensive new construction and renovations. Everything from locker rooms and restrooms, to science rooms and gymnasiums were included in the project. Increased access between buildings was achieved with new pedestrian tunnels and site work. The project as a whole was over 43,000 sf.

Oak Hill Assisted Living was a vision brought to HAWK that fit the “Design/Build” process perfectly. The owners had a distinct care-giving model in mind, where a smaller facility in a home-like environment would allow for flexibility and a high level of care. At 7,500 sf each, the two distinct buildings were created from the ground up to feel like a real home. The homes are linked together by the Acorn Gallery, a space that bring people together- both within the Oak Hill Assisted Living and the larger outside community of families, friends and neighbors.

HAWK Construction teamed up as Construction Manager on this 37,126 sf 2-story office building. Designed by architect Eckert Wordell, the building has an inviting central atrium which leads to office suites including day surgeries and physical therapy on the lower level, and an eye clinic on the main level.

Several decades ago, the members of the Grand Rapids United Methodist church found themselves in a dilemma- “Do we stay or do we move?” Caught in a land-locked situation with 2-levels (no elevator), little parking, and no room for expansion, the group decided it was time for a change.

HAWK Construction was pleased to offer their Design/Build services for the project. A new 10-acre site on the South end of town had been purchased. Nearly a year of committee meetings, with everyone invited to attend, yielded a site plan, and building plans. After a year of construction design goals were achieved: a fully accessible, single level, flexible building, ready to be used not only on Sunday’s, but every day of the week.

The 2018 Lake Country Power corporate headquarters is a 68,000 sf new build which includes vehicle/mechanical bays, and corporate offices. After working in an outdated, overcrowded building, the 43,000 co-op members will enjoy the modern facilities located just a few miles west in Cohasset. The vibrant corporate headquarters will allow employees to realize their core mission to: deliver safe, reliable electric service; manage member resources wisely; and serve to help the community prosper.

The 2021 ICC Student Center addition includes a 3,500 sf addition, linking the existing media center to Davies hall. The new addition houses a student center with common areas and game room. At the adjacent media center remodel, important considerations involved: 1) coordinating design around multiple existing buildings, 2) integrating a library, learning center, bookstore, student lounge and smaller offices and study spaces and 3) creating an accessible pedestrian access to the existing campus.

The student center features clear maple wall panels, hand-crafted on-site by HAWK craftsmen, while the learning commons is grounded by a gas fireplace finished in natural stone from the iron range.

HAWK Construction completed the carpentry package and concrete work for two new elementary schools that opened for the 2020-2021 school year in Grand Rapids. As part of the construction team, the projects reportedly finished on budget and ahead of schedule. Total sf for both projects was over 85,000 sf.
