The Cozy Cove Coffee Company is a quaint little shop in the heart of Hill City. At only 1200 sf, the historic building went from gas station, to warehouse, to coffee shop. The Design/Build project features a full service kitchen, accessible restrooms, comfy seating for “2 up to a 10 seat community table,” and a walk-up window for outdoor service.

Boulder Tap House is a 5200 sf Design/ Build renovation of a former HAWK Design/Build project- Ground Round. The interior renovations included extensive demolition/re-construction, as the bar area was increased and finishes were updated. Situated on one of the busiest intersections in Grand Rapids, the raised, wrap-around deck is designed to provide outdoor seating in a vibrant neighborhood.

King’s Mongolian Grill is a 2,100 SF tenant build-out in Grand Rapids. A HAWK design-build project, the owner brought a typical “vanilla box” space plan to HAWK, then became an integral part of the design team from space planning, kitchen equipment selection, to interior design and furniture selection. The ownership team carried on their decision making process through one member who spoke English, which created a fun, interesting, and unique process. Caught up in construction during the pandemic, the owner’s persevered and the project was completed on time and on budget.

Muah Salon and Spa is a 2,300 SF tenant build-out in Grand Rapids. As a displaced tenant, (due to the Itasca County Courthouse Expansion), Muah’s owner approached HAWK’s design-build team with a creative vision and an aggressive schedule. The owner researched several Grand Rapids area sites before landing on a typical “vanilla box” strip mall space. HAWK’s role was to bring to life, the owners vision for a 1940’s Hollywood “glam” style salon, complete with lots of “bling”, crystal chandeliers, floating fabric backdrops, a striking color black, grey, and pink color scheme, and faux “marble” floors.

Although the project was caught up in construction during the pandemic, the owners persevered, handled some of the construction themselves, and the project was completed on time and on budget.

After leaving their long-time downtown site due to Blandin expansion, Cole Hardware built a brand new facility on the east end of town. No more treacherous stairs to a dim basement. The new facility is bright and light and welcomes customers through its open wood, glu-lam truss entry.

When Walmart moved to their new location on the South end of Grand Rapids, its 97,000 sf building became available and was a good fit for L&M’s new retail store. Exterior renovations included creating a new automotive service center, a new “Pick-up” canopy, and a distinctive new “look” at the main entry. Interior renovations included updating employee break areas and restrooms, as well as updating public restrooms.

Designed by DSGW architects, the Glorvigen office building is situated so clients and employees have exceptional views of the Mississippi River. At 2-stories high, with underground parking, it has become a landmark in downtown Grand Rapids.

HAWK Construction has had the privilege of teaming up with Grand Rapids Alliance Church on two different Design/ Build projects. After building a worship space onto to their existing facility, the congregation next built a 2,500 sf Youth Addition. Complete with its own kitchenette, Conference Room, and private office, the space has been used by a variety of groups, including: small Bible studies, Bible Quizzing, wedding showers, grad parties, concerts, pot lucks, and community outreach events.

Nestled among majestic pines at the corner of Hwy 63 and 76 is the little (now not so little) E. Free Church. What started out as a simple 3600 sf space, has grown to over 18,000 sf by 2018. Several well-thought out Design/Build expansions, each one considering the past, present, and future, have kept pace with the thriving community. The building is well-used throughout the week, housing a pre-school in the C.E. wing and multiple activities in the auditorium, including worship, concerts, speakers, and even volleyball!

Kiesler Wellness Center is a 16,000 sf building situated on a hilltop in Grand Rapids MN. A mental health center, Kiesler’s is an outreach to people of different ages, abilities, needs, etc, and the programming at Kiesler Wellness Center was extensive. Staff and clients methodically thought through the spaces required for many different activities throughout the day, both inside and outdoors. Large group, as well as small, person-to-person spaces were required. Social spaces- cooking, dining, entertaining, provide for a variety of experiences. The facility houses nearly 1,500 sf of fully stocked art and shop space. A rec center with pool tables, games, video stations, overlooks the sunny outdoor patio space, adjacent to community gardens. The social area includes a well-stocked commercial kitchen, which is open to members for occasional cooking classes. Dining areas flow onto covered outdoor patio spaces. A great room, with fireside seating, hosts everything from large scale events to table top games. Nearly 5,000 sf house administration and staff offices.
